The Artist – Maheen Rind
Reconciliation Action Plan: April 2026 to October 2027

Maheen Rind
I am a proud Yamatji Badimaya woman with Afghan cameleer heritage, and my art is a reflection of the deep connection I hold to Country and culture. I draw on the knowledge and stories passed down from my family, particularly the guidance of my Aunty, who has taught me what I am culturally allowed to share and express through my work. Alongside this, I am largely self-taught, allowing my creativity to evolve naturally as I explore different ways to bring my stories to life.
While I work across both digital mediums and traditional canvas, my practice is deeply rooted in Aboriginal art techniques and cultural traditions. My Afghan cameleer heritage shapes my willingness and drive to create, but my visual language remains firmly grounded in the styles and patterns of my Aboriginal ancestry. This dual heritage adds depth to my perspective, influencing the way I approach storytelling, connection, and identity.
Country and connecting to culture inspire me most, the landscapes, colours, and patterns of Country find their way into my work as a way of honouring the land and the people who have walked it before me. When I create, I feel at peace, as though I am on a journey guided by my ancestors. Through my art, I hope to offer others a sense of belonging, an openness to learn, and an opportunity to walk alongside the stories I share.
