26 May 2025

To facilitate future listing of large and/or complex matters, and to facilitate better overall planning for the Court, parties and the profession, the Chief Justice has decided to set term dates for 2026 and 2027.

In 2026, sittings in the original jurisdiction will commence on Monday, 2 February and end on Friday, 18 December.

The Chief Justice has approved the following Full Court and appellate sitting dates for 2026:

  • 2 – 27 March 2026
  • 27 July – 28 August 2026
  • 2 – 27 November 2026

In 2027, sittings in the original jurisdiction will commence on Monday, 1 February and end on Friday, 17 December.

The Chief Justice has approved the following Full Court and appellate sitting dates for 2027:

  • 22 February 2027 – 19 March 2027
  • 26 July – 27 August 2027
  • 1 – 26 November 2027

Subject to there being sufficient business, the Full Court and appellate sittings of the Federal Court of Australia during 2026 and 2027 will be held in all capital cities within the periods indicated above.

Any urgent matter may be transferred to a place of sitting other than that at which the matter was heard at first instance.

If the Chief Justice is satisfied the circumstances require it, a Full Court may sit to hear matters on dates other than those listed.
