Craig Lenehan was appointed to the Federal Court on 9 February 2026.
Justice Lenehan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and a Bachelor of Science from Macquarie University.
In 2006 his Honour signed the New South Wales Bar Roll and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2019. At the bar, his Honour practised in public law, specialising in constitutional law and administrative law matters and appellate work. His Honour was a member of the Human Rights Committee at the New South Wales Bar Association and served as Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Australian Bar Association.
Prior to coming to the bar, his Honour practised as a solicitor working at Freehills (now Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer) and then the Australian Human Rights Commission.
His Honour is a fellow of the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law at UNSW and previously served as a member of its Advisory Committee.
Associateship applications
Justice Lenehan appoints two Associates, generally for a period of 12 months.
His Honour has appointed Associates for 2027 and 2028 and is not currently accepting applications at this time.
