Justice Hespe was appointed to the Federal Court on 27 April 2022.
She was appointed a Deputy President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (now the Administrative Review Tribunal) on 25 May 2023.
Justice Hespe graduated with a Bachelor of Economics in 1991 and with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1994 from Monash University, and in 2002 obtained her Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne. In 1995, she was admitted as a solicitor and barrister in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Justice Hespe commenced her career at Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons), where she specialised in income tax. Since 2012 Justice Hespe has been a lecturer at the University of Melbourne. In 2017 she was appointed as a part-time Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (now the Administrative Review Tribunal) and was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2021.

The Honourable Justice Lisa Hespe will appoint an associate each year for a period of preferably 18 months. There are now positions available commencing August 2026 and February 2028.
Candidates must have post admission practice experience.
Her Honour will take the following skills, attributes and work experience into consideration when recruiting her associates:
- Academic results;
- Capacity to work under pressure;
- Proofing and research skills;
- Adaptability and personal qualities suitable for close working environment in chambers;
- Willingness to travel.
