Livestreaming Practice Note (GPN–LS)

12 June 2026

The Federal Court of Australia has published a Livestreaming Practice Note (GPN‑LS), which will commence on 12 June 2026.

The Practice Note provides guidance to practitioners, parties, media organisations and other court users on the livestreaming of proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia. It explains the circumstances in which livestreaming may occur and the approach taken by judges when determining whether it is appropriate for a proceeding, or part of a proceeding, to be livestreamed.

The Practice Note outlines the Court’s livestreaming capabilities and confirms that decisions to permit livestreaming are discretionary, explains how concerns or objections may be raised, and reiterates that recording or redistribution is prohibited and does not involve any waiver of copyright.

Following the initial implementation period, the Practice Note is scheduled for review in May 2027.
