Session 3: Bribery & Official Corruption

This session includes a presentation by Justice Teresa Berrigan on Bribery and Official Corruption Offences in the Pacific. The presentation includes:

  • The offence of 'official' corruption compared to the offence of 'judicial' corruption

  • Offence of abuse of office in the Criminal Code PNG
  • Elements of the offence of abuse public office

You are invited to consider a case scenario that explores the application of the law relating to bribery and official corruption to a fact situation in your jurisdiction. You are invited to: 

  • Critically analyse the facts of the case and elements of alleged offences;
  • Apply relevant provisions of your domestic law; and you are asked to also
  • Outline the reasoning underpinning your decision.
