John Reeves was appointed to the Federal Court in November 2007.

On 3 March 1975 his Honour was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland after completing 5 years articles of clerkship and the Queensland Solicitors Admission Board course.  He practised for 8 years as a solicitor in Alice Springs and as a barrister at the Northern Territory Bar in Darwin for almost 23 years.  He was appointed one of Her Majesty’s Counsel in October 1997.

His Honour was President of the Northern Territory Bar Association [2000-2005], the Vice President of the Australian Bar Association [2003-2004] and Deputy Chairman of the Northern Territory Legal Practitioner’s Complaints Committee [1998-2007].

His Honour’s community service includes being a member of the Australian Heritage Commission [1985-1987], Chairman of the Australian Red Cross Northern Territory Division and member of the National Board of the Australian Red Cross [2003-2007].
