The Court is looking to employ a Courtroom Technology Manager as part of the Technology Services team.
Reporting to the Director of Technology Services this position is responsible for managing courtroom technology, as well as supporting the Court’s registries in ensuring that the technology and its use in the courtroom meets the requirements of the judiciary.
The position will also manage contracts with third party providers.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience in managing and supporting technology used in the courtroom, in particular videoconferencing and audio visual technology, desirably, in a court or legal environment.

Essential
1. Thorough & up-to-date knowledge of, and practical experience in, audio-visual and information technologies used in courtrooms or a similar environment
2. Demonstrated ability to perform well under pressure, manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
3. Demonstrated ability in managing client expectations
4. Demonstrated experience in promoting a team-based culture
5. Demonstrated experience in managing 3 rd party providers
6. Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills to define issues, assess feasibility and determine the best course of action given resource and other constraints
7. An understanding of the principles of EEO, Industrial Democracy and Occupational Health & Safety.
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating electronic trials
- Experience in working with courts or in the legal industry
- ITIL Foundation/Essentials Qualifications preferably in Version 3.

The Federal Court of Australia is seeking the services of a client and outcomes focussed person for its Principal Registry Library and Information Services section.
The successful applicants will possess substantial experience in the maintenance of information databases, computer literacy in desktop applications (particularly MSWord), an understanding of the importance of data integrity and its impact on clients, good organisational and interpersonal skills, ability to work to tight deadlines with minimal supervision and a demonstrated commitment to achieving quality client service.
Duties
Judgments
- Maintenance of the Court's judgment databases on the intranet and website.
- Preservation of a judgment archive.
- Distribution of judgments.
- Liaison with chambers to achieve compliance with the judgment template and Judgment Style Guide.
- Provision of judgments information to the Court and its clients.
- Timely updating and maintenance of the 'Appeals to Full Court' internet page.
Records
- Provision of assistance to the Records Manager as required.
- Creation, movement, audit and organisation of paper files using Recfind.
Intranet
- Uploading content and undertaking projects under direction (MySource Matrix).
Selection Criteria
- Substantial experience in the maintenance of information or library management system databases.
- Understanding of the importance of data integrity and its impact on clients.
- Strong customer/client service focus and proven experience/track record in the provision of front line client services.
- Strong keyboard and computer skills, and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people.

A challenging opportunity exists for several Research Assistants in the New South Wales and Queensland Registries to be part of the Federal Court of Australia's Research Directorate.
Reporting to the Director of Research, the successful applicants will be responsible for undertaking legal research for Federal Court Judges nationally on a range of matters within the Court's broad jurisdiction, and working as directed.
Applicants should be able to work collegially as part of a cohesive team dedicated to meeting the rigorous standards of legal research work within the Court.
Applicants should also have excellent academic credentials.

Duties

Service Officer - Reception (NSW)

We are currently seeking a highly energetic and self motivated person to work in a busy and challenging contact centre environment which is committed to providing a high level of customer service to a broad range of court users.
In this role you will be responsible for the Reception / Information Desk in our service centre and you will be the first point of contact for most of the Court users. You will also be the reference point in the registry for Judges, Federal Magistrates and Chambers staff.
To be successful you will need to be understanding, patient and able to build relationships internally and with the court’s users. You will possess a strong customer focus, have the ability to research and process complex information, make decisions in accordance with the court’s rules and approved policy, identify and resolve customer issues, exercise sound judgement and common sense and have the ability to present information and explain court processes in an informative and clear manner. You will also have a proven ability to meet Key Performance Indicators and targets.
Contact centre or customer service experience with an eye for detail and proficiency using a variety of computer packages including word, Excel, Powerpoint and information management data bases are skills that will see you succeed in this role.
Duties
- Answer phone calls on the main switchboard and respond according to agreed standards.
- Log information on calls received where required and maintain detailed and accurate records.
- File data and perform routine clerical tasks as assigned.
- Order and maintain relevant office supplies.
- Operate a variety of standard office machines including a personal computer and a variety of computer software: phone, fax, calculator, shredding machine and photocopy machines.
- Communicate and liaise verbally and in writing with visitors to the registry and staff. Interpret and respond clearly and effectively to spoken requests over the phone or in person and to verbal or written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public.
- Perform reception duties in an efficient, professional and courteous manner.
- Manage equipment bookings.
- Monitor and control spare security passes and visiting chambers keys.
- Keep the waiting area presentable at all times.
- Ensure that all Federal Court forms in the public areas are current.
- Organise service calls for equipment such as faxes and photocopiers.
- Retrieve messages from voice mail and forward to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain an inventory of daily courier deliveries.
- Manage the Court’s newspaper and periodical account.
Selection Criteria
- A minimum of 2 years reception / switchboard / administration experience or similar.
- Ability to use the internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and other standard computer applications.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and build productive working relationships with staff at all levels and external and internal clients.
- The ability to relay information clearly, present a professional image and handle appropriately a variety of telephone calls.
- Proven initiative, attention to detail and organisational ability, including the ability to prioritise conflicting demands and work with minimal guidance.
- Capacity to develop a good knowledge and understanding of the Federal Court.
