Location
The Federal Court Registry in Victoria
is located in the Owen Dixon Commonwealth Law Courts Buidling at 305 William
Street, Melbourne, at the corner of William and La Trobe
Streets. The main entrance is adjacent to Flagstaff Railway
Station in La Trobe Street. The building also houses the
Melbourne Registry of the High Court of Australia, the
Family Court of Australia and the Federal Magistrates
Service.
The public enquiry counter is located
on level 7. Court and hearing rooms are located on levels
6, 8 and 9. Noticeboards on level 2 and on levels 6, 8
and 9 show details of the cases which will be heard by
the Court each day.
Hours
The Registry counter is open to the
public from 9.00am until 4.30pm. Telephone enquiries can
be made between 8.30am and 5.00pm except on weekends and
public holidays.
The Court sits from 10.15am until 12.45pm
and 2.15pm until 4.30pm. However, some Court proceedings
may commence earlier so it is a good idea to check the
listing details in the Case List which is published each
weekday in The
Age and is available on this
website.
Transport and parking
The Owen Dixon Commonwealth Law Courts Buidling is located
adjacent to Flagstaff Railway Station. Tram routes 23
and 24 (peak hours only), 30 and the free City Circle
tram travel along La Trobe Street. Tram route 55 travels
along William Street.
There are several public car parks
only a short distance from the building. These offer hourly
and daily parking at commercial rates.
Parking for people with disabilities
is all located in William Street, adjacent to the entrance.
Facilities
The Court publishes a range of resources
which provide information on the Courts procedure
including mediation, bankruptcy, human rights and witnesses.
This information can also be found on this
website. Some information is available in community
languages.
The publications and court forms are
available at the Registry counter. Court forms are also
available from this website.
There is also a computer terminal for
public use which can be used to access court forms or
to search the Courts database of cases.
You should also approach the enquiry
counter if you wish to search a Court file. A fee is payable
for searching a Court file and for obtaining copies of
any filed documents.
The Library on Level 11 is open to
practitioners and litigants between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
Books may not be borrowed although copies of extracts
can be made. A pay for use photocopier is available for
this purpose.
Wheelchair access to the building is
via the main entrance.
Public phones are available on levels
2, 6, 8 and 9. Public toilets, including a toilet with
access for people with disabilities, are located on levels
2, 4, 6 and 8.
Court staff cannot provide child care.
A number of child
care centres operate in the city.
A café is located off the concourse
adjacent to Flagstaff Station. A number of other food
and beverage outlets are located nearby.
The Commonwealth of Australia
has a no smoking policy and smoking is not permitted anywhere
inside the building, including the café.
